Mike joined Maner Costerisan in 1989 and was promoted to principal in January 2009. In his current role, he provides accounting and tax services to medical and dental practices and nonprofit organizations, such as associations and churches. Additionally, Mike oversees the firm’s Business Accounting Services Department where he offers expertise in the areas of small business accounting and financial statement preparation. His departmental responsibilities include reviewing financial statements and payroll tax returns prepared by the department’s staff and providing accounting software training to both staff and clients.
Beyond his commitment to his clients and the department, Mike is heavily involved with the firm’s marketing initiatives as a member of the Marketing Committee. Further, he helps improve the knowledge and skill of the Maner Costerisan team through his part in the firm’s Continuing Education Program.
With a professional background of more than 20 years, Mike has served as an integral part of his clients’ success over the course of his career. He often assists companies which have internet-based accounting software solutions by capturing accounting transactions and efficiently linking them to tax return processing software. In other areas, Mike helps clients mitigate payroll tax penalties, including one organization which saved over $600,000. In addition, he shares his expertise by speaking at annual payroll update seminars for several sponsoring organizations.
Mike was inspired to pursue an accounting career after enjoying and completing all accounting courses offered during high school, as well as his interest in working with numbers. He considers his success a result of his diligent approach and positive attitude, traits instilled in him by his grandfather. Mike also credits a family friend of over 30 years, who expected perfection while providing encouragement and instruction for opportunities Mike thought he was incapable of achieving.
Born in Lansing, Mike was raised in Williamston, Michigan and now resides in East Lansing. While away from the office, he can often be found outdoors where he enjoys water skiing, snow skiing and sailing.
